The Justice Ministry's Prosecutors Evaluation Committee has referred Lin Jun-yan (林俊言), the prosecutor on the Core Pacific City case, to the New Taipei Prosecutors Office for administrative oversight.
The ruling is made after Core Pacific Group chairman Shen Qing-jing requested (沈慶京) that the Committee probe into Lin's improper conduct during the investigations into the case.
According to Shen, Lin conducted excessively long interrogation sessions, discussed matters unrelated to the case during those sessions, and met the defendant privately without notifying defense counsel.
Shen also accused Lin of leaking investigation information to the media.
Lin defended his behavior by saying it was all within the realm of his official duties, stressing that he didn't pressure or intimidate the defendant.
The Committee ruled that while it did not find Lin had acted illegally or improperly during the investigations, he did fail to comply with a part of the Prosecutors’ Ethics Code.
The New Taipei Prosecutors Office, where Lin works now, will continue to monitor his conduct.
