Taipei Confirms First Hantavirus Death in 25 Years

Taipei has reported its first death due to Hantavirus this year—and the city's first in 25 years.
Health officials say the victim was a man in his seventies living in Da'an District, with underlying chronic health conditions.
He developed respiratory symptoms in early January and died eight days later.
Tests later confirmed the infection.
In response, Taipei's Department of Environment Protection launched large-scale rodent control and disinfection efforts around the area, targeting markets, and nearby public spaces.
City officials are urging residents to keep homes and surroundings clean ... and to report any rodent sightings in public areas to authorities.
Mayor Chiang Wan-an has also ordered intensified cleanup efforts ahead of Lunar New Year to reduce the risk of further infections.
