Scholars see short-term dip in war risk after Xi Jinping purges top general

Scholars say recent leadership purges in China's military could lower major-war risk in the short term.
China's defense ministry says vice CMC chairman Zhang Youxia and senior officer Liu Zhenli are under investigation for "serious discipline and law violations."
Political scientist Kou Chien-wen at National Chengchi University says key posts still need to be filled, and that may take time.
Defense researcher Chieh Chung says the purge is unlikely to raise the chance of an invasion in 2027.
He says Beijing still prefers "peaceful unification," but Taiwan should stay alert if tensions rise.
Professor Ma Chen-kun says the purge adds uncertainty over which generals Xi Jinping will trust for advice.
