DPP to Open Registration for City Council Primaries Next Week

The ruling DPP has announced that candidates seeking city council seats in
Taiwan's six major municipalities can begin registering as early as next
week.

The party says registration will run from February 4th to the 10th for
Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung.

After an initial coordination period, unresolved races will be decided by
opinion polls starting in early March.

To qualify, candidates must have been DPP members for at least two
consecutive years before election day in November 2026.

However, new party members who are immigrants will be excluded from this rule.

If coordination fails, primary polling is scheduled to run from March through
early April, setting the stage for the party's nominations in this year's
local elections.
