Control Yuan on Chen Chu's resignation

The Control Yuan is pointing out that President Chen Chu could legally stay
in her position through July...

indicating that her decision to step down as president is not for her own
benefit.

President Lai Ching-te announced yesterday that he finally agreed to her
resignation, effective on February 1st, after she had taken leave of absence
from her post for more than a year.

Facing criticism from the opposition political parties, Control Yuan
officials today note that Chen is allowed to continue to be on leave through
July due to her illness according regulations related to civil servants.

Chen has foregone paychecks during her sick leave.

Chen discovered a kidney tumor in late 2024, but after undergoing surgery she
suffered a stroke.

Lai has appointed deputy Control Yuan President Li Hong-jun as Acting
President.
