Taichung Egg Farm Confirms Avian Flu

A bird flu outbreak has been confirmed at an egg farm in Taichung’s Fengyuan
District after a large number of chickens died.

Mayor Lu Shiow-yen announced the positive test results this morning.

About 1-thousand-700 chickens have died recently at the farm, which holds
more than 7-thousand birds.

The city government says teams are disinfecting the site and restricting
traffic in the area.

They have also ordered all eggs from this farm to be removed from store
shelves and destroyed.

Authorities say the farm owner may face fines for allegedly hiding the
outbreak from authorities.

The city government says it will handle the case according to the law.
