Taipei MRT says power bank rule is advisory, not a ban
Posted on 2026-01-24 13:22:13
The Taipei MRT says a new advisory asking passengers not to use portable
power banks inside the transport system is not a ban, but a call for safety.

It comes after the Taipei Rapid Transit yesterday announced the new "rule,"
effective immediately.

The company says the guidance is aimed at public safety and asks riders to
store power banks properly.

It says it may seek legal responsibility and compensation if careless use or
storage causes a fire or real public danger.

Several Taipei city councilors criticized the move as an overreaction that
confuses commuters.

One councilor also pointed to power bank rental services inside some MRT
stations as inconsistent with the message.

Taipei MRT says it is not a ban, and urges people not to bring in power banks
that are deformed or overheating.

It also advises buying products that meet national standards and have passed
safety inspections.
