Former Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan (蘇嘉全) has taken over as chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation, or SEF.
Su says cross-strait relations should be built on mutual understanding, not confrontation.
He replaced Frank Wu, who resigned in December, according to the foundation.
Su says the SEF's mission remains serving the public, promoting exchanges, and building conditions for peace.
He says the SEF will keep helping Taiwanese businesspeople in China and urged them to stay connected with Taiwan and support democracy.
SEF Secretary-General Luo Wen-jia (羅文嘉) called for peaceful dialogue with no preconditions.
Communication between the SEF and China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits has been suspended since 2016, after Beijing demanded recognition of the "1992 consensus."
