Foreign Minister Lin Jia-long is optimistic about Taiwan's relations with Honduras, saying that he's expecting further developments after January 27th when the new President Nasry Asfura takes office.
Honduras severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 2023 after more than 80 years as an ally.
Lin noted that newly-elected President Asfura had said during his campaign that he would re-establish formal relations with Taiwan as Taiwan, Israel and the United States are his countries' most important allies.
Lin said ties with Taiwan’s current 12 allies, including Honduras' neighboring countries Belize and Guatemala, remain stable.
