Chiayi Mayor getting ready to distribute $6,000 to citizens

Chia-yi Mayor Huang Min-hui is getting ready to distribute $6-thousand NT to
every resident of her city, and $7-thousand for older folks aged 65 and
above.

She went to the Bank of Taiwan's Chia-yi branch to receive 1.58 billion NT in
cash under the escort of city police.

The Mayor said Chia-yi City can afford to do so because it has not borrowed
loans for 15 consecutive years and has remained public debt-free for seven
years.

Her government has also remained fiscally disciplined by avoiding new debt,
using budget surpluses effectively,
and keeping annual spending under control.

The mayor is urging Chiayi residents to spend the money on local shops and
activities to help boost the local economy.

Huang reminded residents that 136 distribution sites have been set up for
this cash payout and residents should bring their national ID card and
personal seal to receive it.
