31 firefighters died in the line of duty in a decade

The National Fire Agency said today that a total of 31 firefighters and emergency medical technicians have died in the line of duty since 2015.
N-F-A officials said the incidents involved not only fires, but also gas explosions, drowning cases, traffic accidents, and typhoon-related disasters.
The most recent one happened last night when firefighter Zhan Neng-jie gave his breathing mask to a trapped woman and later died of asphyxia in a fire in Keelung.
In July 2014, five firefighters were killed while responding to a petrochemical gas explosion in Kaohsiung’s Qian-zhen (前鎮) District and Lingya (苓雅) District.
In addition, six firefighters died in a bowling alley fire in 2015, and another six were killed in 2018 while battling a factory fire at Jing-Peng (敬鵬) Industrial in Taoyuan.
