Posted on 2026-01-22 17:16:13
The National Fire Agency said today that a total of 31 firefighters and
emergency medical technicians have died in the line of duty since 2015.

N-F-A officials said the incidents involved not only fires, but also gas
explosions, drowning cases, traffic accidents, and typhoon-related disasters.

The most recent one happened last night when firefighter Zhan Neng-jie gave
his breathing mask to a trapped woman and later died of asphyxia in a fire in
Keelung.

In July 2014, five firefighters were killed while responding to a
petrochemical gas explosion in Kaohsiung’s Qian-zhen (前鎮) District and
Lingya (苓雅) District.

In addition, six firefighters died in a bowling alley fire in 2015, and
another six were killed in 2018 while battling a factory fire at Jing-Peng
(敬鵬) Industrial in Taoyuan.
