Firefighter dies after giving mask to trapped resident

A firefighter in Keelung died early this morning after giving his breathing
mask to a woman trapped in a burning building.

Authorities say, the woman also eventually passed away.

Keelung Mayor Xie Guo Liang said that Zhan Neng Jie 詹能傑 lost consciousness
from inhaling smoke.

Xie says that the city government will make every effort to obtain the
highest level of compensation for Zhan's family and will seek to have him
interred in the Martyrs' Shrine.

The fire broke out last night around 10pm on the second floor of a 6 story
building in the city's Anle (安樂) district.

When Zhan made his third entry into the building, around 1am, he found the
woman pinned on the floor by debris and hardly breathing.

Nearly an hour later, Zhan was found unconscious in the building, suffering
from oxygen deprivation.
