A U-S House committee has released its draft of the 2026 Consolidated Appropriations Act, including $1.15 billion U-S dollars to support security cooperation with Taiwan.
The proposal allocates $1 billion U-S dollars for the Taiwan Security Cooperation Initiative and $150 million dollars to replace defense equipment and reimburse services provided to Taiwan.
The funding follows provisions in the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act and aims to strengthen Taiwan's self-defense through training, medical support and joint development of unmanned systems.
However, the funds will only be released if the full appropriations bill passes Congress.
U-S lawmakers are under pressure to approve the budget by January 30 to avoid another government shutdown.
Despite bipartisan talks, the bill still faces hurdles in both the Senate and the full House before the deadline.
