DPP legislative caucus applies for constitutional interpretation

The DPP legislative caucus has filed a legal challenge with the constitutional court ... seeking to block a bill that would halt planned pension cuts for government workers through 2029.
The move follows similar challenges by the Cabinet and the Examination Yuan ... and comes just weeks after President Lai Ching-te signed into law amendments passed by the legislature ...
... amendments that would halt planned reductions of pensions for teachers, civil servants and military personnel.
DPP caucus leader Ko Jian-ming warns that if the cuts are suspended, the pension fund could face premature bankruptcy and create what he calls "intergenerational injustice".
However, the legal challenge faces a major hurdle, as the Constitutional Court currently has only eight sitting justices—two short of the legal minimum required to rule on a case.
