Taiwan goods entering the U-S market will now be subject to tariffs of no more than 15 percent, down from the original 20 percent set by the Trump Administration in April of last year.
Under the bilateral deal announced by the U-S Commerce Department, Taiwanese companies investing in new chip manufacturing in the U-S will also be able to avoid tariffs on some imports.
The U-S is also not expected to apply tariffs for generic pharmaceuticals, aircraft components and unavailable natural resources.
The bilateral trade agreement is expected to further boost Taiwan semiconductor companies' financing for U-S operations by 500-billion U-S dollars.
Taiwan semiconductor and tech companies will make new investments totaling at least 250-billion U-S dollars to promote energy, A-I and innovation in the U-S ...
... and Taiwan will also offer credit guarantees of at least 250-billion U-S dollars to expand the chip supply chain in America.
The commerce department hasn't said which companies are expected to invest in the U-S.
The Cabinet's Taiwan-US trade working group said yesterday that a formal trade agreement will be signed at a later date,
A full text will then be submitted to the Legislative Yuan for review.
