Prosecutors Drop Murder Charges Against Woman Accused of Poisoning

Australian Exchange Student

Prosecutors have dropped a murder investigation against a woman accused of
killing her British husband due to insufficient evidence.

The Taipei District Prosecutors Office announced today that it will not
charge the woman, surnamed Yang, in the death of her British husband.

The man died in January 2023, but his body was cremated before police could
test for toxins.

Yang denies poisoning her husband, claiming he died of an illness.

Prosecutors say medical records and witness statements could not confirm a
cause of death or prove the presence of rat poison.

Yang is currently on trial for the attempted murder of Alex Shorey, an
Australian exchange student.

Prosecutors say she repeatedly put rat poison in Shorey’s food and drinks in
early 2023, to stop him from returning to Australia.

In that case, prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence of at least eight
years.
