The opposition KMT and TPP are holding two public hearings today and tomorrow as they seek to impeach President Lai Ching-te.
The Legislative Procedure Committee has also passed a decision to invite the President to the Legislative Yuan on January 21st to deliver his response and explanations, as well as answer lawmakers' questions.
If he doesn't show up, representatives of the political parties will speak instead.
The Legislative Yuan passed the impeachment introduced by opposition parties last month after President Lai and Premier Chuo Jung-tai refused to promulgate amendments to the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures Act.
A separate impeachment targets Chuo as well.
Lai had said the impeachment proceedings against him are a waste of time.
According to the Constitution, an impeachment can only pass with the support of two-thirds of all lawmakers.
