Taiwan delegation visits China for APEC meeting despite Chinese threat

Taiwan's senior APEC official Jonathan Sun says a delegation that visited China for a round of meetings did not receive any kind of treatment that downgraded Taiwan's sovereignty.
The statement comes after Sun, who also heads the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of International Organizations, led a delegation to Shenzhen to attend the 2026 APEC Informal Senior Officials' Meeting last month.
According to Sun, the trip went "smoothly and safely" for all of the Taiwan delegates as the Chinese side arranged the trip in accordance with long-standing practices.
Sun says the Taiwan group was not met with any suppression politically.
Sun also says that Taiwan has been in talks with China to make sure the APEC host guarantees Taiwan's "equal, dignified, and safe involvement" in APEC meetings and activities in Shenzhen ...
.. and both sides agreed to follow a mutually agreed model to facilitate the Taiwanese delegation's visit to China.
China's foreign ministry in November of last year said it would fulfill its obligations as the APEC host, as long as Taiwan complies with the "one China" principle.
