Defense Minister Wellington Koo says, the military has detected intermittent signals from the black box of a F-16V fighter jet that disappeated last week.
However, Koo says it has not pinned down the exact location.
Pilot Hsin Po-yi (辛柏毅) took off in the jet from Hualien Air Base at 6:17 p.m. last Tuesday on a nighttime training mission but soon reported that the plane was losing altitude.
He then said that he would eject from the plane, and 8 seconds later the jet's signal disappeared from radar.
The Air Force set up an emergency response center and launched a search and rescue operation, but has not yet been able to find the pilot himself or the plane.
Koo said today that the search and rescue operation has so far involved dozens of Navy vessels, Coast Guard boats, and drones.
