The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it will continue pushing for the island’s participation in U.N. climate negotiations, despite the United States' recent decision to withdraw from the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change.
MOFA said it has long worked with the Ministry of Environment and the private sector to secure Taiwan's presence at UNFCCC meetings, receiving strong support from friendly nations.
The ministry emphasized that Taiwan’s goal of meaningful participation remains unchanged.
The U-S, under Donald Trump, has directed federal agencies to end involvement and funding for 31 U.N. bodies and 35 non-U.N. organizations, many focused on climate, environment, and gender equality—including the UNFCCC.
