Air Force: Search for Missing Pilot Not Limited to 72 Hours
Posted on 2026-01-07 16:11:13
The Air Force says the search will continue for a pilot who went missing off
the coast of Hualien on Tuesday night.

Captain Hsin Po-yi was flying an F-16V during a night training mission when
his plane disappeared from radar.

Records show Hsin reported he was lost in the clouds at 7:27 p.m.

One minute later, he radioed that his altitude was dropping and shouted that
he was ejecting.

Radar contact was lost at 1,700 feet.

The Air Force says its all-out search for Captain Hsin will continue beyond
72 hours.

Air Force officials say the weather met safety standards and the plane had no
mechanical issues.

The Air Force has grounded all F-16 jets for safety inspections.
