In in news from and about Taiwan this morning,

The Ministry of National Defense says China fired 27 rockets during the
second day of its latest military drill near Taiwan and 10 of them landed in
the sea within Taiwan's 24-nautical mile contiguous zone.

Defense officials say it was the closest ever Chinese live-fire exercise to
Taiwan proper.

The rockets were fired in two batches using multiple rocket launchers from
the Pingtan and Shishi areas in Fujian Province.

Seventeen missiles were fired from Pingtan fell into the sea off northern
Taiwan in a China-designated drill zone, outside the 24-nautical-mile
contiguous zone.

While 10 missiles launched from Shishi all landed in a designated drill zone
southwest of Taiwan, within the 24-nautical-mile zone off Tainan.

The Coast Guard Administration says it closely monitored the movement of the
15 Chinese patrol boats.

Eight of those vessels briefly breached the 24 nautical-mile line but were
promptly warned away.
