KMT to file charges against 5 Constitutional Court justices

The KMT Legislative Caucus says, it will file charges today against 5 Constitutional Court justices who ruled Friday to strike down legislation that effectively paralyzed the court.
They say they will pursue charges against 5 of the 8 sitting justices... while the other 3 did not side with the majority in revoking the amendments. '
The KMT caucus says, the decision to file charges is in an attempt to preserve Taiwan's "precarious judicial independence" and to ensure that the court makes judgements in accordance with the law.
Last December, the KMT/TPP-controlled legislature passed amendments to laws governing the constitutional court...
stipulating that it needed at least 10 out of 15 justices sitting on the court in order to hear any case.
That's after 7 justices stepped down in October.
Since then, the legislature has refused all 14 of President Lai Ching-te's nominees to fill those vacancies.
On Friday, 5 of the sitting justices ruled that those amendments lacked "supporting measures" and "violated the constitutional principle of separation of powers."
The ruling noted that the amendments should thus be voided, as deliberation leading to the legislation was obviously defective.
