The Ministry of Environment is preparing to expand its waste reduction rules to target excessive packaging on all retail products.
The ministry announced today that it will reveal a new "Single-Use Product Reduction Milestone" by the end of this year.
The new policy will move beyond current restrictions that only cover gift boxes and online shopping packages, to set new standards for the packaging layers and volume for a wide variety of commercial goods.
Officials say many products use too much plastic or leave too much empty space inside boxes, and most online shipping materials also lack clear labels, making it difficult for consumers to sort their trash correctly.
Now, a government task force including representatives from manufacturers, packaging suppliers, and retailers, are working on the new set of guidelines to reduce packaging waste across the entire supply chain.
