The High Court has overturned Ann Kao's corruption conviction after finding her not guilty of embezzling assistant fees.
However, it found her guilty of causing public officials to make false entries in official records in a case involving assistant fees during her tenure as a lawmaker.
The court has sentenced her to six months in prison commutable to a fine for falsifying official documents.
That ruling can be appealed.
It comes nearly a year-and-a-half after Kao was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison by the Taipei District Court for violating the Anti-Corruption Act and Criminal Code.
That lower court ruling led to Kao's suspension as Hsinchu City mayor.
The Hsinchu City government says it submitted an application to the Ministry of the Interior for Kao's reinstatement in accordance with relevant regulations immediately after the High Court issued its ruling
Acting Mayor Chiu Chen-yuan says city departments have begun preparing for the handover and is urging the interior ministry to approve Kao's reinstatement as soon as possible.
Taiwan People's Party Chairman says Kao's acquittal on corruption charges has finally cleared her name and is "justice delayed."
