Tourism Agency Says Cross-Strait Talks Await China Reply

The Tourism Administration says Taiwan's tourism exchange body has shown goodwill, but China has not responded.
It says the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association contacted China's counterpart in February 2025 to propose talks through a "mini two-associations" channel.
Officials say any restart of group tours should first cover safety, quality, stability, and fairness.
A China Times report estimates a 2025 gap of nearly 3.8 million cross-strait trips and a tourism deficit of about $152 billion NT.
The report says Taiwanese travel to China has continued, while direct flights have fallen and airfares have risen.
It also notes Shanghai officials discussed possible tour groups to Taiwan at last year's Twin-City Forum in Taipei.
This year's forum is set for December 27th and 28th in Shanghai, with the travel industry watching for progress.
