A Chinese app with more than 3-million users here in Taiwan has been ordered blocked for one-year due to cybersecurity failures and widespread fraud activity on the platform.
According to the Cabinet's Anti-Fraud Command Center, internet service providers have been instructed to use technical measures to prevent the public from accessing Xiao-hong-shu effective immediately.
The move follows a warning earlier this week by the Ministry of Digital Affairs about security risks posed by five Chinese apps -- Xiao-hong-shu, Dou-yin, Wei-bo, WeChat and Bai-du Wang-pan.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau says that Xiao-hong-shu has been linked to 950 fraud cases in Taiwan last year, causing financial losses of more than 132-million N-T.
The bureau also says trom January to November of this year, there have been 756 fraud cases, with total losses exceeding 114-million N-T.
The top five Xiaohongshu-related schemes were fake online shopping platforms, fraudulent installment payment cancellations, fake investments, romance scams and sexual solicitation scams.
