MOFA: US Delegation of State Legislators to Visit Taiwan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says a delegation from the U.S. National
Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) is visiting Taiwan from December 1st
through the 6th.

The organization comprised of state legislators and legislative staff, is led
by NCSL President Marcus Evans, an Illinois state representative.

At a banquet yesterday, Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi called on U.S.
state governments to use diverse methods to strengthen ties with Taiwan and
jointly promote substantive bilateral cooperation.

He praised the fact that 25 U.S. states and Guam will soon have offices in
Taiwan and encouraged more U.S. governors to lead trade missions to the
island.

Evans emphasized that the N-C-S-L can serve as an important bridge between
Taiwan and state governments, and expressed hopes for closer future ties.
