Taiwan to Fully Ban Kitchen Waste Pig Feeding in 2027

The Executive Yuan has approved a plan to end the use of kitchen waste as pig feed by the end of 2026.
Officials say all hog farms must switch to commercial feed starting in 2027 to reduce the risk of African swine fever.
Farmers will have a one-year transition period, and those who switch immediately will receive a $3-thousand-600 NT subsidy per pig.
Others who continue using cooked kitchen waste during the buffer period will receive half that amount.
The Agriculture Ministry will also provide loans, equipment support and technical guidance to help farms upgrade.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) says strict controls are needed during the transition and that the nationwide shift must be completed by December 31 next year.
