KMT lawmaker aims to hold referendum to legalize caning

KMT Lawmaker Hong Meng-kai says, he will support changing the law to legalize caning as a state-sanctioned punishment.
That comes as Singapore has made amendments to their laws to allow caning as punishment for fraud.
Hong says, the Taiwanese government should consider legalizing caning for those who commit child abuse, rape, and fraud.
He also says that he's considering proposing a referendum vote on the practice for next year, and even said he would propose an amendment to the Criminal Code.
Hong also claims that 70% of the public supports caning as state-sanctioned punishment.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Justice says, the legalization of such a practice would require long-term consideration...
