Taiwan Water Corporation on water supply to Keelung Nuan-nuan

Taiwan Water Corporation has reassured Keelung’s Nuan-nuan District residents that the Xi-shi (西勢) Reservoir can maintain water supply for around 10 days instead of three as originally speculated.
The statement comes after oil pollution in the Keelung River has triggered renewed concern over drinking-water safety.
Environmental protectioin officials say one major source of contamination was traced to a Guo-guang Motor Transport maintenance plant, which had allegedly been discharging untreated wastewater directly into the river.
The facility has been shut down, and investigators are continuing to search for additional pollution sources.
The Corporation has halted all river intake and is relying instead on the Xi-shi Reservoir, backed by additional supplies from the Xin-shan Water Treatment Plant.
Cleanup work is underway, and mobile labs have been deployed to conduct rapid chemical testing.
Water officials say they hope to resume drawing from the river once results confirm the water is safe, but contingency plans, including rerouting intake from upstream, are ready if pollution persists.
