The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is thanking U-S President Donald Trump for signing the Taiwan Assurance Implementation Act.
The U-S Senate passed Act on November 18 after which it was sent to the White House for signing on Tuesday of this week.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung is expressing his sincere gratitude for the U-S support, while the foreign ministry says it will to build on the good relations between Taiwan and the U-S and uphold the principles of mutual trust and mutual benefit.
The bill requires the U-S State Department to regularly review and update the rules governing Washington's engagement with Taiwan and directs the State Department to "identify opportunities and plans to lift self-imposed restrictions on relations with Taiwan."
It also requires that the guidelines take into account that Taiwan is "governed by a representative government peacefully constituted through free and fair elections."
The bipartisan act passed the U-S House of Representatives in May.
