Former KMT lawmaker Liao Kuo-tung has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for taking bribes in a 2020 lobbying case.
Taipei District Court found Liao guilty of accepting $700 thousand NT from consultant Kung Hsiang-ke, who was hired to lobby for a capital increase for Number Media, a cloud services firm linked to Chinese tech company Inspur.
Prosecutors said Liao directed his office chief, Ting Fu-hua, to help push the request through government agencies.
Ting kept 200 thousand NT as commission, while Liao convened coordination meetings to advance the case.
Both were convicted, though Liao denied wrongdoing.
Ting was sentenced to one year and four months...
While Kung received a four-month suspended sentence and must pay 100 thousand NT.
All three also face temporary loss of civil rights, and the rulings remain open to appeal.
