A group of military officers say they have seized control of Guinea-Bissau amid reports that the president has been arrested.
The officers have appeared on state television saying they'd suspended the electoral process.
It comes as the West African nation is awaiting the outcome of Sunday's presidential election.
According to the military officers, they were acting to stop a plot by unnamed politicians who had "the support of a well-known drug baron" to destabilise the country.
They have also announced the closure of the country's borders and imposed a night-time curfew.
Guinea-Bissau is known as a notorious drug-trafficking hub where the military has been influential since independence from Portugal in 1974.
