The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors' Office has indicted 26 people connected to a chain of dental clinics that hired unlicensed dentists, defrauded the national health insurance system, evaded taxes and laundered money.
The prosecutors' office says the vast scale of financial crimes by the Abc Dental Group was uncovered while it was investigating claims that they employed unlicensed dentists.
The dental group reportedly made an estimated 1.6-billion N-T in illegal gains.
According to prosecutors, although the probe originally focused on four suspects who opened the group in 2016, it expanded as new evidence was brought to their attention.
Prosecutors say the dental group employed 17 unlicensed dentists who filled cavities, cleaned and pulled teeth for over 30,000 patients from between 2019 and 2023.
The unlicensed dentists brought in 57.1-million N-T in illegal profits for the company, including 46.9-million N-T in reimbursements from the National Health Insurance system.
