The D-P-P has officially announced that Su Chiao-hui will be its candidate for the New Taipei mayoral race, and Chen Pin-an has been selected as the party's candidate for the Miaoli County magistrate race in next year's local elections.
President and D-P-P Chairman Lai Ching-te announced the nominations after they were approved by the party's Central Executive Committee.
Su is the daughter of former Premier Su Tseng-chang and has represented a New Taipei district in the Legislature since 2016.
She could face challenges from Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan of the K-M-T, who is widely expected to run and/or Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang - who has voiced his plans to seek New Taipei's top job.
Meanwhile, Chen Pin-an has served as a Miaoli County councilor since 2018.
The K-M-T has controlled New Taipei since 2005, while Miaoli County has elected only K-M-T or KMT-aligned independent magistrates since 1950.
The K-M-T says its first batch of nominations for next year's local election will likely be finalized between January and February.
The city and county local elections are scheduled to take place on November 28 next year.
