cyberbullying
A survey by the Child Welfare League Foundation has found that 18.6-per cent of junior and senior high school students have experienced cyberbullying, and the threat of bullying has moved beyond schools.
7.5-per cent of respondents reportedly experienced more than three forms of attack and girls reported higher rates of online bullying than boys.
The most common types including public shaming in class chat groups, exclusion from online groups, and the sharing of private conversations for ridicule.
The survey also found that nearly 41-per cent of respondents had heard of cyberbullying incidents.
The fundation says trend is even more worrying because nearly 40 percent of students who witnessed cyberbullying took no action... which in turn potentially makes isolation and indifference "a secondary form of harm."
The survey showed that 15.1-per cent of respondents targeted by cyberbullying had contemplated self-harm or suicide, while 48.9-per cent showed signs of social anxiety or avoidance and 42.2-per cent felt worthless or suffered low self-esteem.
