China replaces diesel trucks with electric ones

China is rapidly replacing its aging diesel trucks with electric models,
signaling a major shift in the world’s largest vehicle market.

Sales of electric trucks jumped 175% in the first half of 2025, with
battery-electric vehicles now making up more than a fifth of the market.

Electric trucks are now cheaper to buy and operate than diesel ones.

Forecasts suggest heavy-duty electrics could account for half of new sales by
2028.

Analysts estimate that the transition is displacing a substantial amount of
oil demand each day, undercutting diesel and LNG consumption and defying
earlier expectations of continued growth in China’s LNG transport sector.
