Chen Shu-zi (陳淑姿), the Directorate-General of Budget and Accounting chief, has stressed the difficulty of revising the 2026 general budget amid disputes over the allocation of government revenues between the executive and legislative branch.
Asked about next year's budget, Chen said there's no way to do the budget all over again.
She stressed that the Cabinet will send its version of the amendments to the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures Act to the Legislative Yuan tomorrow, and she's hoping that the Legislature can pass it.
In a bid to secure a fairer share of tax revenues, the Legislative Yuan amended the law last year to require that the central government allocate $416.7 billion NT to local governments.
However, the Executive Yuan not only refused to implement the revised law, but also cut general and special subsidies to cities and counties by a total of $394.6 billion for this year.
The move prompted the Legislative Yuan to amend the law again last week, drawing the ire of Premier Chuo Rong-tai.
