Alishan Forest Railway featured in Lonely Planet's 'Epic Train Trips'

The Alishan Forest Railway has been named one of the "Epic Train Trips of the
World" by international travel publisher Lonely Planet — the only Taiwan
route to make the global guide.

It's featured in a four-page chapter.

The recognition comes after the main line fully reopened in 2024 following
years of reconstruction.

The century-old mountain railway climbs from Chiayi into the Alishan
highlands, weaving through tea fields, forests, and cloud-lined slopes.

Officials say the listing highlights the railway's cultural and historical
importance and gives Taiwan's most iconic mountain train a welcome boost on
the world stage.
