President Lai Ching-te is calling on China to exercise restraint after a Chinese coast guard fleet entered waters near the disputed Senkaku Islands.
Lai said China should respect the rules-based international order and avoid becoming a "troublemaker" that undermines regional stability.
The patrol is widely seen as a response to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent statement that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger a military response from Japan.
Lai criticized opposition figures who blamed him for China listing DPP lawmaker Puma Shen as "wanted" for alleged secession-related activities.
He added that domestic political rivalry is normal, but Taiwan's parties should stand together when facing external pressure from Beijing.
