Eggs produced at an egg farm in Zhang-hua have repeatedly been found to contain excessive residues of the banned Fipronil pesticide, and prosecutors are considering destroying all 250-thousand eggs remaining there.
Zhang-hua health officials said eggs produced by the Wen-ya Farm in Changhua tested positive for fipronil on November 4, leading them to impose movement restrictions the next day.
Officials then notified 9 cities and counties that they should remove Wen-ya eggs from shelves as a precaution on November 7th.
However, when Taichung Food and Drug office workers inspected an egg wholesaler in Taichung three days, they found that it's selling 40-thousand eggs from the same farm.
Tests of those samples again showed Fipronil residues.
Zhang-hua prosecutors are looking into the case and getting ready to destroy all the remaining eggs at the farm.
But they've also said that the farm needs to preserve daily samples for future inspection.
