Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control said it will fortify its public awareness campaign on vaccinations to avoid incorrect application of rules regarding which groups are eligible for fully covered COVID-19 jabs.
The CDC was responding to a report that a man had paid NT$1,000 to vaccinate an infant. He eventually got a refund -- but not before the staff at a government-funded medical center were sent scurrying for accurate information after he expressed surprise at the charge.
The latest government campaign to provide COVID vaccinations free of charge began on Oct. 1. Groups covered include people aged 65 and older, medical professionals and people with conditions that make them particularly susceptible to COVID.
On Nov. 1, people aged 50-64 were added to the list of those elibigle for jabs.
A spokesman for the CDC said 5.7 million doses of the vaccine have been administered since Oct. 1, and there are now fewer than a million doses left
