The launch of Taiwan's first locally built satellite system, Formosat-8, has been postponed to the early morning of November 12th.
The Taiwan Space Agency says the first satellite in the series, named 'Chi Po-lin (齊柏林)' will now lift off at 2:18 AM that day — one day later than originally planned.
The Formosat-8 constellation will eventually include eight optical remote-sensing satellites in sun-synchronous orbit, about 560 kilometers above Earth.
Officials say the system will provide more frequent and detailed imaging for land planning, agriculture, disaster response, and environmental protection.
The space agency adds that launch times are subject to weather and other conditions, and the satellite is expected to separate from the rocket about two hours after liftoff.
