Kinmen authorities are stepping up joint patrols at the "Mini Three Links" ports of entry to block African Swine Fever from entering Taiwan.
Customs officials say they are working with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency to intensify inspections of passengers and cargo arriving from Xiamen and Quanzhou.
They say warning signs have been posted and all inbound passenger luggage will undergo x-ray inspection.
Detection dogs are also being used in the searches.
The officials confirm several recent cases where travelers were caught trying to bring in pork products, including sausages and fish rolls containing pork.
All cases resulted in fines of 200-thousand NT or more.
Authorities urged the public not to violate the regulations, noting that the African Swine Fever virus is highly contagious and resilient, posing a major threat to the swine industry.
