The Peruvian government has cut off diplomatic relations with Mexico.
That's over the asylum claim of former Peruvian Prime Minister Betssy Chavez.
Chavez is under investigation for rebellion.
Perucian Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela says, the decision by Mexico to grant asylum to Chavez at its embassy in the Peruvian capital of Lima is an "unfriendly act."
Peruvian President Jose Jeri accused Mexico of interfering in the country's internal affairs.
Chavez is accused of participating in a failed 2022 coup attempt by then-President Pedro Castillo, whose family currently lives in Mexico.
Officials are seeking a prison sentence of up to 25 years for Chavez.
