The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expressed "grave concerns" after Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reiterated the city state's opposition to "Taiwan independence."
Wong made the remark at a meeting with China's Premier Li Qiang in Singapore during discussions over cross-strait developments.
A statement by Singaporean foreign ministry revealed Wong's statement that that Singapore has a clear and consistent 'One China' policy and its opposition to Taiwan independence.
The foreign ministry here in Taiwan says it is an "objective fact and a common sense shared by many" that Taiwan is an independent, sovereign nation ...
.... with world-leading performances in terms of its political freedom, economic development, and global competitiveness and Taiwan's future can only be decided by Taiwanese people.
The ministry also says Singapore should respect the fact that the Republic of China is a sovereign state and not to make comments that could "hurt the long-standing friendship between two countries."
