Political figures could be removed from new banknotes: Governor

Taiwan's Central Bank is considering removing the portraits of political figures from future bank notes.
The bank's Governor Yang Chin-long said a comprehensive redesign of bank notes -- scheduled to be issued gradually starting in 2028 -- isn't driven by political concerns and no final decisions have been made.
This was in response to DPP Legislator Wu Bin-rui, who suggested that the time had passed for featuring political figures on the nation's currency.
The current NT$100 and NT$200 notes feature portraits of Sun Yat-sen, the ROC founder, and former President Chiang Kai-shek, respectively. Both leaders are closely identified with their political party -- the KMT.
