The High Court sentenced a retired general to seven and a half years in
prison.

That's because he attempted to form a China-backed organization in Taiwan- a
violation of the National Security Act.

Army Lt. Gen. Gao An Guo's girlfriend, surnamed Liu, also got 6 and a half
months in prison in the same case.

The two worked together for financial gain to initiate an organization for
China...

including plans to launch attacks on government institutions and establish an
interim regime pending annexation by China.

According to the ruling, Gao drafted plans for the organization in 2020, and
named himself chief convener.

He also drafted a separate plan to outline combat concepts, seeking to
recruit active and retired military personnel.

From 2023, Gao and Liu traveled to China several times to meet CCP personnel
and receive instructions.

The attempt to launch this orgainzation ultaimtely failed, though, as none of
the military personnel contacted agreed to participate.

The Taiwan High Prosecutors Office said it would decide whether to file an
appeal after receiving the full judgment.
