Taiwan heated tobacco products fail labelling test

Recently approved "heated tobacco products" were removed from shelves on their first day in stores yesterday -- as they failed to adhere to nicotine labelling requirements.
Heated tobacco products are like e-cigarettes in that they're smoked using a battery-powered device, but they differ in that the devices heat tobacco leaves -- not liquids.
The government provisionally approved 14 heated tobacco products from two companies a couple of years ago, and they were allowed to go on sale yesterday.
However, Health and Welfare Minister Shi Chongliang said today that he personally participated in a surprise inspection of the products. Eight of them were found to have inadequate nicotine labelling.
Shi noted that during the approval process, samples of the products were properly labelled. Fines are likely forthcoming.
